Project overview
Protecting trust after advisor impersonation
Two Facebook accounts used an independent advisor’s identity to promote scams that defrauded people. A public group made investment claims and directed readers to unofficial WhatsApp and Telegram contacts. The advisor confirmed the accounts were not his. His real social profiles were on LinkedIn and Instagram.
Friction
The business problem
Clients needed a quick way to identify the advisor’s real profiles, check unexpected messages, and avoid unofficial WhatsApp or Telegram contacts. He needed a way to warn people, establish a real Facebook presence, and report the fraud with evidence he could reuse.
Recommendation
What was worth changing
Build a response he could use immediately: evidence for fraud reports, a real Facebook presence, Meta Verified guidance, and pinned warnings showing clients how to check unexpected contact against his LinkedIn and Instagram profiles.
Execution
Clear steps for clients and reporting
Map the impersonation and preserve evidence
We documented the Facebook profiles, public claims, and routes to WhatsApp and Telegram. The reusable evidence package includes source notes for fraud reports across platforms.
Make real profiles easier to verify
LinkedIn and Instagram provided reference points for the advisor’s identity. We prepared pinned Facebook warning examples, client verification guidance, and reusable replies that explain how to avoid unofficial contacts.
Walk through profile setup and verification
We guided the advisor through claiming and setting up his official Facebook profile, then reviewed Meta Verified on Facebook and Instagram, including current pricing and direct signup links. He had practical instructions to follow, rather than a list of platforms to figure out himself.
Result and evidence
Fewer scam inquiries. Clear next steps.
After updating his profiles, the client reported fewer messages about the scams.
- Successfully reported fraudulent accounts.
- Received reusable evidence, warning posts, and a client verification guide.
- Walked through the materials and guidance together over a video call.
